Get More YouTube Views by Using Playlist Video Links

Boost views and keep fans watching by sharing playlist links instead of regular YouTube video URLs.

If you’re sharing individual YouTube video links to promote your content, you’re missing a major opportunity to drive more views across your entire catalog. There’s a simple, often-overlooked tactic that can make a big difference: using playlist video links instead of regular video URLs.

When someone clicks a standard YouTube video link, they’ll watch your video — but on the right-hand side, the suggested videos will be filled with random content from other creators. That means as soon as your video ends, the viewer is likely to disappear into someone else’s content.

Now here’s the fix: if you create a playlist of your own videos and then grab the link to your video within that playlist, YouTube will show your content in a playlist format. That means your video still plays normally, but now the sidebar is filled with your other videos — not strangers’. This small tweak makes it far more likely that viewers will stick around and watch more of your content.

Why This Works

  • Keeps viewers inside your content ecosystem
  • Increases average watch time and session duration
  • Signals stronger engagement to YouTube’s algorithm
  • Makes your channel look more intentional and organized

How To Do It

  1. Create a playlist that includes all your relevant videos. (If you’re not sure how, check out our guide on creating optimized playlists — link coming soon.)
  2. Go to the playlist and click on the video you want to promote. This part is important: don’t just use the regular video link.
  3. Copy the URL from the browser while that video is playing inside the playlist. The link will look something like this:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOURVIDEOID&list=YOURPLAYLISTID

That’s it. Now, whenever you share this playlist link, viewers will see your video in full — but with the added benefit of being nudged toward the rest of your content.

If you’re promoting your videos through email campaigns, social media, or even paid ads, this is a no-brainer upgrade.
